Jeremiah 17:21

¹⁵In those days I saw some men treading wine presses on the Sabbath in Judah, bringing in sheaves, and loading donkeys with wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of burdens which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day; and I testified against them in the day in which they sold food. ¹⁶Some men of Tyre also lived there, who brought in fish and all kinds of wares, and sold on the Sabbath to the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. ¹⁷Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, “What evil thing is this that you do, and profane the Sabbath day? ¹⁸Didn’t your fathers do this, and didn’t our God bring all this evil on us and on this city? Yet you bring more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”

¹⁹It came to pass that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. I set some of my servants over the gates, so that no burden should be brought in on the Sabbath day. ²⁰So the merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares camped outside of Jerusalem once or twice. ²¹Then I testified against them, and said to them, “Why do you stay around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they didn’t come on the Sabbath.

³²While the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. ³³Those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. ³⁴They put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.

³⁵The LORD said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him with stones outside of the camp.” ³⁶All the congregation brought him outside of the camp, and stoned him to death with stones, as the LORD commanded Moses.

⁹Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now that day was a Sabbath.

¹⁰So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”

¹¹He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’ ”

¹²Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

⁹Only be careful, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children—

²³Be careful, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you.

¹⁶Be careful, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn away to serve other gods and worship them;

¹⁵Be very careful, for you saw no kind of form on the day that the LORD spoke to you in Horeb out of the middle of the fire,

¹⁸Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has.”

¹¹Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God.

²³Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.
