Deuteronomy 4:9

⁷and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

³which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done. ⁵For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; ⁶that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children, ⁷that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments, ⁸and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

¹⁹For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that the LORD may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

⁴⁶He said to them, “Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you today, which you shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

⁴You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

⁸You shall tell your son in that day, saying, ‘It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ ⁹It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that the LORD’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt.

²⁹The secret things belong to the LORD our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

²⁰My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. ²¹Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart. ²²For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body. ²³Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.

¹Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding; ²for I give you sound learning. Don’t forsake my law. ³For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother. ⁴He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live. ⁵Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don’t forget, and don’t deviate from the words of my mouth. ⁶Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you. ⁷Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. ⁸Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor when you embrace her. ⁹She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.” ¹⁰Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many. ¹¹I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths. ¹²When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble. ¹³Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.
