Psalms 89:32

¹⁴I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the children of men;

⁶for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

⁷It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? ⁸But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children. ⁹Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

¹¹My son, don’t despise the LORD’s discipline, neither be weary of his correction; ¹²for whom the LORD loves, he corrects, even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.

²“I have only chosen you of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins.”

³⁹I will afflict the offspring of David for this, but not forever.’”

¹⁴The LORD raised up an adversary to Solomon: Hadad the Edomite. He was one of the king’s offspring in Edom.

³⁴Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;

³⁴Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”

³¹For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn’t be judged. ³²But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

⁶Solomon did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, and didn’t go fully after the LORD, as David his father did.
