2 Samuel 7:14

⁵For to which of the angels did he say at any time, “You are my Son. Today I have become your father?”and again, “I will be to him a Father, and he will be to me a Son?”

¹⁹As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

¹³I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will not take my loving kindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you;

⁶He said to me, ‘Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

⁵You shall consider in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

³²But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

⁵You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; ⁶for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

⁷It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? ⁸But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children. ⁹Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

²⁰I have found David, my servant. I have anointed him with my holy oil, ²¹with whom my hand shall be established. My arm will also strengthen him. ²²No enemy will tax him. No wicked man will oppress him. ²³I will beat down his adversaries before him, and strike those who hate him. ²⁴But my faithfulness and my loving kindness will be with him. In my name, his horn will be exalted. ²⁵I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers. ²⁶He will call to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation!’ ²⁷I will also appoint him my firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. ²⁸I will keep my loving kindness for him forever more. My covenant will stand firm with him. ²⁹I will also make his offspring endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰If his children forsake my law, and don’t walk in my ordinances; ³¹if they break my statutes, and don’t keep my commandments; ³²then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³But I will not completely take my loving kindness from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail. ³⁴I will not break my covenant, nor alter what my lips have uttered. ³⁵Once I have sworn by my holiness, I will not lie to David. ³⁶His offspring will endure forever, his throne like the sun before me. ³⁷It will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.” Selah.

¹²Blessed is the man whom you discipline, LORD,^[+] and teach out of your law, ¹³that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.

¹¹For I am with you, says the LORD, to save you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.”
