1 Kings 11:39

⁷Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on David’s throne, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will perform this.

¹¹For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ^[+] the Lord.

¹A shoot will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit. ²The LORD’s Spirit will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. ³His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴but he will judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. ⁵Righteousness will be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his waist. ⁶The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, the calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf together; and a little child will lead them. ⁷The cow and the bear will graze. Their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox. ⁸The nursing child will play near a cobra’s hole, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. ⁹They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

¹⁰It will happen in that day that the nations will seek the root of Jesse, who stands as a banner of the peoples; and his resting place will be glorious.

³²He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, ³³and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. There will be no end to his Kingdom.”

³⁶I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.

¹⁶When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.

⁴⁹Lord, ^[+] where are your former loving kindnesses, which you swore to David in your faithfulness? ⁵⁰Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the mighty peoples, ⁵¹With which your enemies have mocked, LORD, with which they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one.

²⁵In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; ²⁶and he took away the treasures of the LORD’s house and the treasures of the king’s house. He even took away all of it, including all the gold shields which Solomon had made.

³¹For the Lord will not cast off forever. ³²For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

³⁰If his children forsake my law, and don’t walk in my ordinances; ³¹if they break my statutes, and don’t keep my commandments; ³²then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³But I will not completely take my loving kindness from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail. ³⁴I will not break my covenant, nor alter what my lips have uttered.
