Proverbs 29:1

¹⁵Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

²⁵If one man sins against another, God will judge him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?” Notwithstanding, they didn’t listen to the voice of their father, because the LORD intended to kill them.

²⁴Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; ²⁵but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof; ²⁶I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, ²⁷when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. ²⁸Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me, ²⁹because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of the LORD. ³⁰They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. ³¹Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.

¹⁸Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.

¹¹But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear. ¹²Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law and the words which the LORD of Armies had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from the LORD of Armies. ¹³It has come to pass that, as he called and they refused to listen, so they will call and I will not listen,” said the LORD of Armies; ¹⁴“but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.”

¹⁸I don’t speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.’

⁷⁰Jesus answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” ⁷¹Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.

²⁶Jesus therefore answered, “It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.

²⁵to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.”

¹³“The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, “Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words?” says the LORD. ¹⁴“The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father’s commandment; but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking, and you have not listened to me. ¹⁵I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Every one of you must return now from his evil way, amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them. Then you will dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers;’ but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me. ¹⁶The sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me.”’
