Zechariah 7:11

²⁹and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they were arrogant, and didn’t listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances (which if a man does, he shall live in them), turned their backs, stiffened their neck, and would not hear.

¹⁶For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Then how will the LORD feed them like a lamb in a meadow?

⁵Why then have the people of Jerusalem fallen back by a perpetual backsliding? They cling to deceit. They refuse to return.

⁴Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: The LORD of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says the LORD.

¹⁵I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Every one of you must return now from his evil way, amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them. Then you will dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers;’ but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

⁷But the house of Israel will not listen to you, for they will not listen to me; for all the house of Israel are obstinate^[+] and hard-hearted.

⁵⁷But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears, then rushed at him with one accord.

¹³Yet the LORD testified to Israel and to Judah, by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.” ¹⁴Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck like the neck of their fathers who didn’t believe in the LORD their God. ¹⁵They rejected his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them.

²⁴Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; ²⁵but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof; ²⁶I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, ²⁷when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. ²⁸Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me, ²⁹because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of the LORD. ³⁰They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. ³¹Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes. ³²For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

¹⁰Make the heart of this people fat. Make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.”
