Proverbs 18:11

¹⁵The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

⁵God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah. ⁶The righteous also will see it, and fear, and laugh at him, saying, ⁷“Behold, this is the man who didn’t make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

¹²For wisdom is a defense, even as money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

³¹For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves concede.

⁶Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches— ⁷none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him. ⁸For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough, ⁹that he should live on forever, that he should not see corruption.

¹⁹I will tell my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.”’

²⁰“But God said to him, ‘You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?’ ²¹So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

¹⁰Don’t trust in oppression. Don’t become vain in robbery. If riches increase, don’t set your heart on them. ¹¹God has spoken once; twice I have heard this, that power belongs to God.

²⁴“If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, ‘You are my confidence;’ ²⁵If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

⁴Riches don’t profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
