Job 24:20

⁷The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

¹⁴He cried aloud and said this: ‘Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches! Shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit! Let the animals get away from under it and the birds from its branches.

¹⁶His roots will be dried up beneath. His branch will be cut off above. ¹⁷His memory will perish from the earth. He will have no name in the street.

²⁶After my skin is destroyed, then I will see God in my flesh,

¹⁰Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.

¹⁴if I have said to corruption, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ and ‘My sister,’

¹⁰So I saw the wicked buried. Indeed they came also from holiness. They went and were forgotten in the city where they did this. This also is vanity.

¹⁴The dead shall not live. The departed spirits shall not rise. Therefore you have visited and destroyed them, and caused all memory of them to perish.

⁷“For there is hope for a tree if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, that the tender branch of it will not cease. ⁸Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground, ⁹yet through the scent of water it will bud, and sprout boughs like a plant. ¹⁰But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
