Job 19:10

²⁰The womb will forget him. The worm will feed sweetly on him. He will be no more remembered. Unrighteousness will be broken as a tree.

³⁵I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. ³⁶But he passed away, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁸We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair; ⁹pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed;

¹⁴Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.

¹³So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man will perish, ¹⁴whose confidence will break apart, whose trust is a spider’s web. ¹⁵He will lean on his house, but it will not stand. He will cling to it, but it will not endure. ¹⁶He is green before the sun. His shoots go out along his garden. ¹⁷His roots are wrapped around the rock pile. He sees the place of stones. ¹⁸If he is destroyed from his place, then it will deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’

¹³It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, ¹⁴that a messenger came to Job, and said, “The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them, ¹⁵and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

¹⁶While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

¹⁷While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

¹⁸While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, ¹⁹and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.”

⁶My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

¹¹My days are past. My plans are broken off, as are the thoughts of my heart.

⁵The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah. ⁶He has violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were a garden. He has destroyed his place of assembly. The LORD has caused solemn assembly and Sabbath to be forgotten in Zion. In the indignation of his anger, he has despised the king and the priest.

¹³But to you, LORD, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you. ¹⁴LORD, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me? ¹⁵I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted. ¹⁶Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off. ¹⁷They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me. ¹⁸You have put lover and friend far from me, and my friends into darkness.
