Job 17:11

⁶My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

¹⁰I said, “In the middle of my life I go into the gates of Sheol.^[+] I am deprived of the residue of my years.”

⁹A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.

¹⁵In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit, ¹⁶and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea. ¹⁷When I therefore planned this, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be the “Yes, yes” and the “No, no?”

¹³Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.” ¹⁴Yet you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. ¹⁵For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”

¹⁰Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand, for God is with us.”

³⁷Who is he who says, and it comes to pass, when the Lord doesn’t command it?

²⁵“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away. They see no good. ²⁶They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.

²¹There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the LORD’s counsel will prevail.

¹³Now I don’t desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you (and was hindered so far), that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.
