Isaiah 49:14

²⁷Why do you say, Jacob, and speak, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God”?

¹I ask then, did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ²God didn’t reject his people, whom he foreknew. Or don’t you know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel: ³“Lord, they have killed your prophets. They have broken down your altars. I am left alone, and they seek my life.”⁴But how does God answer him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”⁵Even so too at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

²⁰Why do you forget us forever, and forsake us for so long a time?

³⁹therefore behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off with the city that I gave to you and to your fathers, away from my presence.

³⁸But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed. ³⁹You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust. ⁴⁰You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴²You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries. You have made all of his enemies rejoice. ⁴³Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword, and haven’t supported him in battle. ⁴⁴You have ended his splendor, and thrown his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵You have shortened the days of his youth. You have covered him with shame. Selah. ⁴⁶How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire?

²²As for me, I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before your eyes.” Nevertheless you heard the voice of my petitions when I cried to you.

¹My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?

¹How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

⁶I remember my song in the night. I consider in my own heart; my spirit diligently inquires: ⁷“Will the Lord reject us forever? Will he be favorable no more? ⁸Has his loving kindness vanished forever? Does his promise fail for generations? ⁹Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?” Selah.
