Ecclesiastes 5:17

²It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

³⁰For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep. ³¹For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn’t be judged. ³²But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

²Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper room that was in Samaria, and was sick. So he sent messengers, and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover of this sickness.”

³³Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.

²⁵Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.

⁷For we are consumed in your anger. We are troubled in your wrath. ⁸You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. ⁹For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh. ¹⁰The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away. ¹¹Who knows the power of your anger, your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?

¹⁰Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

¹¹Behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ¹²In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa was diseased in his feet. His disease was exceedingly great; yet in his disease he didn’t seek the LORD, but just the physicians.

²⁷Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your offspring^[+] forever.” He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

¹⁷To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.

¹⁶Moreover he said to me, “Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem. They will eat bread by weight, and with fearfulness. They will drink water by measure, and in dismay; ¹⁷that they may lack bread and water, be dismayed one with another, and pine away in their iniquity.
