Psalms 78:33

³⁵I, the LORD, have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”

²⁹Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,

⁶⁴But among these there was not a man of them who were counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵For the LORD had said of them, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” There was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹³This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. ¹⁴For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.

¹⁴The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the middle of the camp, as the LORD swore to them. ¹⁵Moreover the LORD’s hand was against them, to destroy them from the middle of the camp, until they were consumed. ¹⁶So, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

⁶For affliction doesn’t come out of the dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground; ⁷but man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

¹³I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under the sky. It is a heavy burden that God ^[+] has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. ¹⁴I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and a chasing after wind.

¹“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.

¹⁶To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. You will bear children in pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

¹⁷To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life. ¹⁸It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”

²“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”
