Ecclesiastes 1:4

⁵He laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever.

¹²For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he spends like a shadow? For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?

⁵Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

³⁵Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

⁹⁰Your faithfulness is to all generations. You have established the earth, and it remains. ⁹¹Your laws remain to this day, for all things serve you.

²⁴I said, “My God, don’t take me away in the middle of my days. Your years are throughout all generations. ²⁵Of old, you laid the foundation of the earth. The heavens are the work of your hands. ²⁶They will perish, but you will endure. Yes, all of them will wear out like a garment. You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed. ²⁷But you are the same. Your years will have no end. ²⁸The children of your servants will continue. Their offspring will be established before you.”

¹⁰But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat; and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. ¹¹Therefore, since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness, ¹²looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? ¹³But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

⁴⁷Remember how short my time is, for what vanity you have created all the children of men! ⁴⁸What man is he who shall live and not see death, who shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol?Selah.

³Adam ^[+] lived one hundred thirty years, and became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. ⁴The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. ⁵All the days that Adam lived were nine hundred thirty years, then he died.

⁶Seth lived one hundred five years, then became the father of Enosh. ⁷Seth lived after he became the father of Enosh eight hundred seven years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. ⁸All of the days of Seth were nine hundred twelve years, then he died.

⁹Enosh lived ninety years, and became the father of Kenan. ¹⁰Enosh lived after he became the father of Kenan eight hundred fifteen years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. ¹¹All of the days of Enosh were nine hundred five years, then he died.

¹²Kenan lived seventy years, then became the father of Mahalalel. ¹³Kenan lived after he became the father of Mahalalel eight hundred forty years, and became the father of other sons and daughters ¹⁴and all of the days of Kenan were nine hundred ten years, then he died.

¹⁵Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, then became the father of Jared. ¹⁶Mahalalel lived after he became the father of Jared eight hundred thirty years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. ¹⁷All of the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred ninety-five years, then he died.

¹⁸Jared lived one hundred sixty-two years, then became the father of Enoch. ¹⁹Jared lived after he became the father of Enoch eight hundred years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. ²⁰All of the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty-two years, then he died.

²¹Enoch lived sixty-five years, then became the father of Methuselah. ²²After Methuselah’s birth, Enoch walked with God for three hundred years, and became the father of more sons and daughters. ²³All the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years. ²⁴Enoch walked with God, and he was not found, for God took him.

²⁵Methuselah lived one hundred eighty-seven years, then became the father of Lamech. ²⁶Methuselah lived after he became the father of Lamech seven hundred eighty-two years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. ²⁷All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty-nine years, then he died.

²⁸Lamech lived one hundred eighty-two years, then became the father of a son. ²⁹He named him Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, caused by the ground which the LORD has cursed.” ³⁰Lamech lived after he became the father of Noah five hundred ninety-five years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. ³¹All the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy-seven years, then he died.

⁹For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh. ¹⁰The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.
