Zechariah 1:5

²that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, ³knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts ⁴and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

⁵yes, they shall be afraid of heights, and terrors will be on the way; and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goes to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets;

¹⁰The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.

⁷and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

¹⁰But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he? ¹¹As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up, ¹²so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.

²⁷Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment,

⁵²Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’

⁴One generation goes, and another generation comes; but the earth remains forever.

²³Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death. ²⁴But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.

¹For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn’t know it; all is before them. ²All things come alike to all. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn’t sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who takes an oath, as he who fears an oath. ³This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
