Psalms 118:18

³²But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

¹⁷“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. ¹⁸For he wounds and binds up. He injures and his hands make whole.

⁹as unknown and yet well known, as dying and behold—we live, as punished and not killed,

¹¹My son, don’t despise the LORD’s discipline, neither be weary of his correction; ¹²for whom the LORD loves, he corrects, even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.

⁹Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, ¹⁰who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver, on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us, ¹¹you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift given to us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your^[+] behalf.

¹²Blessed is the man whom you discipline, LORD,^[+] and teach out of your law, ¹³that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.

⁶I went down to the bottoms of the mountains. The earth barred me in forever; yet you have brought my life up from the pit, LORD my God.

¹⁰For you, God, have tested us. You have refined us, as silver is refined. ¹¹You brought us into prison. You laid a burden on our backs. ¹²You allowed men to ride over our heads. We went through fire and through water, but you brought us to the place of abundance.

¹⁶then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. ¹⁸He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹“He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones, ²⁰so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food. ²¹His flesh is so consumed away that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out. ²²Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers. ²³“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him, ²⁴then God is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’ ²⁵His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth. ²⁶He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness. ²⁷He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me. ²⁸He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’ ²⁹“Behold, God does all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man, ³⁰to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

¹⁰Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’
