Psalms 94:12

¹¹My son, don’t despise the LORD’s discipline, neither be weary of his correction; ¹²for whom the LORD loves, he corrects, even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.

¹⁷“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.

⁵You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; ⁶for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

⁷It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? ⁸But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children. ⁹Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

³²But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁷¹It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.

⁶⁷Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I observe your word.

¹⁶then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. ¹⁸He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹“He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones, ²⁰so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food. ²¹His flesh is so consumed away that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out. ²²Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers. ²³“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him, ²⁴then God is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’ ²⁵His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.

⁵You shall consider in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

⁹The LORD’s voice calls to the city— and wisdom fears your name— “Listen to the rod, and he who appointed it.
