Psalms 118:17

⁴But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

¹⁷God, you have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wondrous works. ¹⁸Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come.

¹⁶Lord, men live by these things; and my spirit finds life in all of them. You restore me, and cause me to live. ¹⁷Behold, for peace I had great anguish, but you have in love for my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; for you have cast all my sins behind your back. ¹⁸For Sheol^[+] can’t praise you. Death can’t celebrate you. Those who go down into the pit can’t hope for your truth. ¹⁹The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do today. The father shall make known your truth to the children. ²⁰The LORD will save me. Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in the LORD’s house.

⁵For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol,^[+] who shall give you thanks?

²⁸But it is good for me to come close to God. I have made the Lord GOD ^[+] my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

¹²Aren’t you from everlasting, LORD my God, ^[+] my Holy One? We will not die. LORD, you have appointed them for judgment. You, Rock, have established him to punish.

⁷For none of us lives to himself, and none dies to himself. ⁸For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s. ⁹For to this end Christ died, rose, and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

⁴One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.

⁵Many, LORD, my God, are the wonderful works which you have done, and your thoughts which are toward us. They can’t be declared back to you. If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be counted.

²²Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his deeds with singing.
