Proverbs 28:11

¹⁷He who pleads his cause first seems right— until another comes and questions him.

¹⁶The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion.

¹⁶Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits.

¹⁵Now a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶Then I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him who rules among fools.

⁹It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.

⁴Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.

¹⁸Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool that he may become wise. ¹⁹For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”

²⁵For I don’t desire you to be ignorant, brothers,^[+] of this mystery, so that you won’t be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in,

³behold, you are wiser than Daniel. There is no secret that is hidden from you. ⁴By your wisdom and by your understanding you have gotten yourself riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasuries. ⁵By your great wisdom and by your trading you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches—”

¹¹The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.
