Proverbs 25:19

⁶Behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

⁶“‘“All the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. ⁷When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders. When they leaned on you, you broke and paralyzed all of their thighs.”

¹⁴“To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be shown from his friend; even to him who forsakes the fear of the Almighty. ¹⁵My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away; ¹⁶which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself. ¹⁷In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place. ¹⁸The caravans that travel beside them turn away. They go up into the waste, and perish. ¹⁹The caravans of Tema looked. The companies of Sheba waited for them. ²⁰They were distressed because they were confident. They came there, and were confounded.

²⁰Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him. ²¹For Ahaz took away a portion out of the LORD’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but it didn’t help him.

¹⁶At my first defense, no one came to help me, but all left me. May it not be held against them.

¹“Woe to the rebellious children”, says the LORD, “who take counsel, but not from me; and who make an alliance, but not with my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; ²who set out to go down into Egypt without asking for my advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt! ³Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
