Proverbs 22:2

¹⁵Didn’t he who made me in the womb make him? Didn’t one fashion us in the womb?

³¹He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

⁷The LORD makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.

¹³The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both.

¹⁹He doesn’t respect the persons of princes, nor respect the rich more than the poor, for they all are the work of his hands.

²For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue,^[+] and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in, ³and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing and say, “Sit here in a good place;” and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool” ⁴haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? ⁵Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

²¹The eye can’t tell the hand, “I have no need for you,” or again the head to the feet, “I have no need for you.”

¹Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world, ²both low and high, rich and poor together.
