Proverbs 1:1

^1[+] The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.

⁹Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

⁵Of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the LORD’s kingdom over Israel.

¹The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem:

³¹For he was wiser than all men—wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the nations all around. ³²He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered one thousand five.

¹These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

¹²Solomon sat on David his father’s throne; and his kingdom was firmly established.

⁹Further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

²⁴David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. The LORD loved him; ²⁵and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah,^[+] for the LORD’s sake.

²⁸He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.
