1 Chronicles 28:5

¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

¹Now these were the sons of David, who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn, Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second, Daniel, of Abigail the Carmelitess; ²the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; ³the fifth, Shephatiah of Abital; the sixth, Ithream by Eglah his wife: ⁴six were born to him in Hebron; and he reigned there seven years and six months. He reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem; ⁵and these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four, by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel; ⁶and Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet, ⁷Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, ⁸Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine. ⁹All these were the sons of David, in addition to the sons of the concubines; and Tamar was their sister.

⁹Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. ¹⁰He shall build a house for my name; and he will be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’

¹David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.

¹God, give the king your justice; your righteousness to the royal son. ²He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice. ³The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people. The hills bring the fruit of righteousness. ⁴He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces. ⁵They shall fear you while the sun endures; and as long as the moon, throughout all generations. ⁶He will come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth. ⁷In his days, the righteous shall flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more. ⁸He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. ⁹Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust. ¹⁰The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. ¹¹Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him. ¹²For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper. ¹³He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. ¹⁴He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight. ¹⁵He will live; and Sheba’s gold will be given to him. Men will pray for him continually. They will bless him all day long. ¹⁶Abundance of grain shall be throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field. ¹⁷His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed. ¹⁸Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. ¹⁹Blessed be his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and amen.

²⁰This ends the prayers by David, the son of Jesse.

²³Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

⁶For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on David’s throne, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will perform this.

³David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David became the father of more sons and daughters. ⁴These are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, ⁵Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, ⁶Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, ⁷Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

¹⁴but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever. His throne will be established forever.”’”

⁸Solomon said to God, “You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place. ⁹Now, LORD God, let your promise to David my father be established; for you have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
