Numbers 32:10

¹¹The LORD said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? How long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?

²⁹Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,

³⁴The LORD heard the voice of your words and was angry, and swore, saying, ³⁵“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers, ³⁶except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He shall see it. I will give the land that he has trodden on to him and to his children, because he has wholly followed the LORD.”

³⁷Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, “You also shall not go in there. ³⁸Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, shall go in there. Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. ³⁹Moreover your little ones, whom you said would be captured or killed, your children, who today have no knowledge of good or evil, shall go in there. I will give it to them, and they shall possess it. ⁴⁰But as for you, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”

²³surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it.

¹⁵Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands,

¹¹Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They won’t enter into my rest.”

⁸don’t harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of the trial in the wilderness, ⁹where your fathers tested me and tried me, and saw my deeds for forty years. ¹⁰Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said, ‘They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways.’ ¹¹As I swore in my wrath, ‘They will not enter into my rest.’”

¹²Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there might be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God; ¹³but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called “today”, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. ¹⁴For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence firm to the end, ¹⁵while it is said, “Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.”

¹⁶For who, when they heard, rebelled? Wasn’t it all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? ¹⁷With whom was he displeased forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸To whom did he swear that they wouldn’t enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient? ¹⁹We see that they weren’t able to enter in because of unbelief.

²¹but in very deed—as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the LORD’s glory—
