Numbers 16:49

⁹Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

³²The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all of Korah’s men, and all their goods. ³³So they, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol.^[+] The earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly. ³⁴All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!” ³⁵Fire came out from the LORD, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.

²⁵See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,

¹Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away. ²For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, ³how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation—which at the first having been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard,

¹⁴So the LORD sent a pestilence on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.

²⁸A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
