Matthew 23:5

¹“Be careful that you don’t do your charitable giving^[+] before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ²Therefore, when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. ³But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, ⁴so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

⁵“When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward. ⁶But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. ⁷In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. ⁸Therefore don’t be like them, for your Father knows what things you need before you ask him. ⁹Pray like this: “‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. ¹⁰Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. ¹¹Give us today our daily bread. ¹²Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. ¹³Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

¹⁴“^[+] For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹⁶“Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.

⁴³for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.

⁴⁴How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁸You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.

¹⁵He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

³doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;

³⁸“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them that they should make themselves fringes^[+] on the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put on the fringe^[+] of each border a cord of blue. ³⁹It shall be to you for a fringe,^[+] that you may see it, and remember all the LORD’s commandments, and do them; and that you don’t follow your own heart and your own eyes, after which you used to play the prostitute;

²¹Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck. ²²When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you. ²³For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

⁹It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that the LORD’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt.

¹²You shall make yourselves fringes^[+] on the four corners of your cloak with which you cover yourself.
