Matthew 11:19

¹⁰As he sat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. ¹¹When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

³⁴The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ ³⁵Wisdom is justified by all her children.”

³⁶One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered into the Pharisee’s house and sat at the table.

¹Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming close to him to hear him. ²The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.”

⁷When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner.”

²⁹Levi made a great feast for him in his house. There was a great crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them. ³⁰Their scribes and the Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?”

²⁴but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God; ²⁵because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

²⁶For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble; ²⁷but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world that he might put to shame the things that are strong. ²⁸God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist, ²⁹that no flesh should boast before God.

¹When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.

⁵How great are your works, LORD! Your thoughts are very deep. ⁶A senseless man doesn’t know, neither does a fool understand this:

²⁴Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.

²⁹When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John’s baptism.
