Luke 8:23

³The floods have lifted up, LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods lift up their waves. ⁴Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.

²²Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out.

²³Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters, ²⁴these see the LORD’s deeds, and his wonders in the deep. ²⁵For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves. ²⁶They mount up to the sky; they go down again to the depths. Their soul melts away because of trouble. ²⁷They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. ²⁸Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distress. ²⁹He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still. ³⁰Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven.

²if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us, ³then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us, ⁴then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul.

⁹Awake, awake, put on strength, arm of the LORD! Awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Isn’t it you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the monster? ¹⁰Isn’t it you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep; who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over?

¹⁴But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euroclydon.^15[+] When the ship was caught and couldn’t face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along. ¹⁶Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat. ¹⁷After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along. ¹⁸As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard. ¹⁹On the third day, they threw out the ship’s tackle with their own hands. ²⁰When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.

¹¹“You afflicted, tossed with storms, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

⁸lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy wind, fulfilling his word,

²³Wake up! Why do you sleep, Lord?Arise! Don’t reject ^[+] us forever.

¹⁵For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.
