Luke 12:52

¹⁸If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his lord.’If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. ²¹But they will do all these things to you for my name’s sake, because they don’t know him who sent me.

¹In Iconium, they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed. ²But the disbelieving^[+] Jews stirred up and embittered the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers. ³Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who testified to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. ⁴But the multitude of the city was divided. Part sided with the Jews and part with the apostles.

⁵Don’t trust in a neighbor. Don’t put confidence in a friend. With the woman lying in your embrace, be careful of the words of your mouth! ⁶For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

²⁴Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.

¹⁶Some therefore of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” So there was division among them.

²They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

¹⁹Therefore a division arose again among the Jews because of these words. ²⁰Many of them said, “He has a demon and is insane! Why do you listen to him?” ²¹Others said, “These are not the sayings of one possessed by a demon. It isn’t possible for a demon to open the eyes of the blind, is it?”

⁹Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate bread with me, has lifted up his heel against me.

⁴³Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

⁴⁴The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God. ⁴⁵But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

⁴⁶Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁴¹Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴²Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring^[+] of David,and from Bethlehem,the village where David was?” ⁴³So a division arose in the multitude because of him.
