Lamentations 3:55

²⁴Having received such a command, he threw them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the stocks.

²⁵But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. ²⁶Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened. ²⁷The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. ²⁸But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!”

³The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol^[+] a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴Then I called on the LORD’s name: “LORD, I beg you, deliver my soul.”

⁶Then they took Jeremiah and threw him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard. They let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

²He said, “I called because of my affliction to the LORD. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol^[+] I cried. You heard my voice. ³For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your waves and your billows passed over me. ⁴I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’

¹I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. ²He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.

¹Out of the depths I have cried to you, LORD.²Lord, ^[+] hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions.

¹¹Therefore the LORD brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

¹²When he was in distress, he begged the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.

³When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, you knew my route. On the path in which I walk, they have hidden a snare for me. ⁴Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul. ⁵I cried to you, LORD. I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” ⁶Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. ⁷Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me, for you will be good to me.

⁵The cords of Sheol^[+] were around me. The snares of death came on me. ⁶In my distress I called on the LORD, and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears.

¹³But as for me, my prayer is to you, LORD, in an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation. ¹⁴Deliver me out of the mire, and don’t let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵Don’t let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up. Don’t let the pit shut its mouth on me. ¹⁶Answer me, LORD, for your loving kindness is good. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, turn to me. ¹⁷Don’t hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me speedily! ¹⁸Draw near to my soul and redeem it. Ransom me because of my enemies.
