Jonah 2:2

¹In my distress, I cried to the LORD. He answered me.

⁴The cords of death surrounded me. The floods of ungodliness made me afraid. ⁵The cords of Sheol^[+] were around me. The snares of death came on me. ⁶In my distress I called on the LORD, and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears.

⁶This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

¹³For your loving kindness is great toward me. You have delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol.

¹LORD, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you. ²Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry. ³For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.^4[+] I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, ⁵set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand. ⁶You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. ⁷Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.

⁷He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

⁶David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

²⁴For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, neither has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.

³The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol^[+] a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow.

⁴⁰For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
