Jonah 1:9

⁵Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD, his God, ⁶who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever;

⁶You are the LORD, even you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their army, the earth and all things that are on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. The army of heaven worships you.

⁵The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land. ⁶Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before the LORD, our Maker,

²⁶Oh give thanks to the God of heaven, for his loving kindness endures forever.

⁴When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, and mourned several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God ^[+] of heaven,

¹³One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. At that time, he lived by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. They were allies of Abram.

⁴⁴“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

¹¹and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They still didn’t repent of their works.

³²So they feared the LORD, and also made from among themselves priests of the high places for themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. ³³They feared the LORD, and also served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. ³⁴To this day they do what they did before. They don’t fear the LORD, and they do not follow the statutes, or the ordinances, or the law, or the commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; ³⁵with whom the LORD had made a covenant and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;

²⁸So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.
