Job 37:24

²⁸Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

²⁶For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;

⁴Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

⁴But there is forgiveness with you, therefore you are feared.

²⁵At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. ²⁶Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.

¹³He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

²¹Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

¹⁹For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”

²⁰True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear; ²¹for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. ²²See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

³⁹I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good and the good of their children after them.
