Job 29:12

¹²For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper.

¹³Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

²²“You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child. ²³If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

²“How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?” Selah. ³“Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. ⁴Rescue the weak and needy. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.”

¹⁸He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.

¹¹Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter! ¹²If you say, “Behold, we didn’t know this,” doesn’t he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn’t he know it? Shall he not give to every man according to his work?

⁵A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

⁵Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities. ⁶For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it. ⁹You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

¹⁷or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it
