Job 20:28

¹⁴If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring will not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵Those who remain of him will be buried in death. His widows will make no lamentation. ¹⁶Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷he may prepare it, but the just will put it on, and the innocent will divide the silver. ¹⁸He builds his house as the moth, as a booth which the watchman makes. ¹⁹He lies down rich, but he will not do so again. He opens his eyes, and he is not.

¹⁸Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

¹⁷For in an hour such great riches are made desolate.’ Every ship master, and everyone who sails anywhere, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood far away,

¹Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you. ²Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. ³Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.

³⁰that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?

¹⁸He will restore that for which he labored, and will not swallow it down. He will not rejoice according to the substance that he has gotten. ¹⁹For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he will not build it up. ²⁰“Because he knew no quietness within him, he will not save anything of that in which he delights. ²¹There was nothing left that he didn’t devour, therefore his prosperity will not endure. ²²In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress will overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come on him.

⁴Riches don’t profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

⁵whose harvest the hungry eat up, and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance.

³¹Your ox will be slain before your eyes, and you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face, and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and you will have no one to save you.

¹⁷‘Behold, the days come that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says the LORD.
