Job 19:20

⁵By reason of the voice of my groaning, my bones stick to my skin.

⁸Their appearance is blacker than a coal. They are not known in the streets. Their skin clings to their bones. It is withered. It has become like wood.

¹⁹“He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones, ²⁰so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food. ²¹His flesh is so consumed away that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out. ²²Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

¹⁰Our skin is black like an oven, because of the burning heat of famine.

⁴Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Skin for skin. Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. ⁵But stretch out your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce you to your face.”

⁶The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life.”

³⁰My skin grows black and peels from me. My bones are burned with heat.

¹⁴I am poured out like water. All my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax. It is melted within me. ¹⁵My strength is dried up like a potsherd. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have brought me into the dust of death. ¹⁶For dogs have surrounded me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They have pierced my hands and feet.^17[+] I can count all of my bones. They look and stare at me.

³When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. ⁴For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer. Selah.

⁴He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones.

⁵My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust. My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.
