Lamentations 3:4

¹³I waited patiently until morning. He breaks all my bones like a lion. From day even to night you will make an end of me.

⁸Let me hear joy and gladness, that the bones which you have broken may rejoice.

⁹Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. My eye, my soul, and my body waste away with grief. ¹⁰For my life is spent with sorrow, my years with sighing. My strength fails because of my iniquity. My bones are wasted away.

¹⁷“Israel is a hunted sheep. The lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.”

²For your arrows have pierced me, your hand presses hard on me. ³There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. ⁴For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. ⁵My wounds are loathsome and corrupt because of my foolishness. ⁶I am in pain and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all day long. ⁷For my waist is filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart.

³For my days consume away like smoke. My bones are burned as a torch. ⁴My heart is blighted like grass, and withered, for I forget to eat my bread. ⁵By reason of the voice of my groaning, my bones stick to my skin.

³When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

⁸You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face. ⁹He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.

¹⁴I am poured out like water. All my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax. It is melted within me.
