Job 17:2

²⁰My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God,

⁶Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because the LORD had shut up her womb. ⁷So year by year, when she went up to the LORD’s house, her rival provoked her. Therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.

⁴I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.

³⁹Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”

⁴¹Likewise the chief priests also mocking with the scribes, the Pharisees,^[+] and the elders, said, ⁴²“He saved others, but he can’t save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him. ⁴³He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” ⁴⁴The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.

³Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.

⁹Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?

¹He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

¹⁴I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother. ¹⁵But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I didn’t know it. They tore at me, and didn’t cease. ¹⁶Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me.

¹³His soul will dwell at ease. His offspring will inherit the land.
