Matthew 27:39

²⁵I have also become a reproach to them. When they see me, they shake their head.

¹²“Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

²for they have opened the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit against me. They have spoken to me with a lying tongue.

³⁵The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

³⁶The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, ³⁷and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”

³⁸An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

³⁹One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”

¹⁵But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I didn’t know it. They tore at me, and didn’t cease. ¹⁶Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me. ¹⁷Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, my precious life from the lions. ¹⁸I will give you thanks in the great assembly. I will praise you among many people. ¹⁹Don’t let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me without a cause wink their eyes. ²⁰For they don’t speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. ²¹Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, “Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!”

¹⁵All that pass by clap their hands at you. They hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, “Is this the city that men called ‘The perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth’?” ¹⁶All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you. They hiss and gnash their teeth. They say, “We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for. We have found it. We have seen it.” ¹⁷The LORD has done that which he planned. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old. He has thrown down, and has not pitied. He has caused the enemy to rejoice over you. He has exalted the horn of your adversaries.

⁶But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people. ⁷All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,

²²who didn’t sin, “neither was deceit found in his mouth.”²³When he was cursed, he didn’t curse back. When he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously. ²⁴He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds.

⁴I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul’s place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,

^29[+] Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads and saying, “Ha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, ³⁰save yourself, and come down from the cross!”
