Job 1:18

⁴His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

¹³It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

²All things come alike to all. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn’t sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who takes an oath, as he who fears an oath.

²⁸Absalom commanded his servants, saying, “Mark now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!”

¹²“Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

¹⁴He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs at me like a giant.

⁹He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰He has broken me down on every side, and I am gone. He has plucked my hope up like a tree.

²“Oh that my anguish were weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances! ³For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas, therefore my words have been rash.

²“Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

⁴If your children have sinned against him, he has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience.
