John 8:6

¹³LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be disappointed. Those who depart from me will be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living waters.

²⁵Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

⁷a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

³Pharisees came to him, testing him and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”

¹²They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all day long. ¹³But I, as a deaf man, don’t hear. I am as a mute man who doesn’t open his mouth. ¹⁴Yes, I am as a man who doesn’t hear, in whose mouth are no reproofs.

¹⁰They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks blamelessly.

¹⁷Like one who grabs a dog’s ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.

²²because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;

⁵³As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him, ⁵⁴lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.

¹³Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.
