Numbers 14:22

³You have reproached me ten times. You aren’t ashamed that you attack me.

¹⁷With whom was he displeased forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸To whom did he swear that they wouldn’t enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient?

¹When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”

²⁶Therefore he swore to them that he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

⁷Your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God didn’t allow him to hurt me.

²Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?”

³¹and in the wilderness where you have seen how that the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”

³²Yet in this thing you didn’t believe the LORD your God, ³³who went before you on the way, to seek out a place for you to pitch your tents in: in fire by night, to show you by what way you should go, and in the cloud by day. ³⁴The LORD heard the voice of your words and was angry, and swore, saying, ³⁵“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers,

¹⁴but gave in to craving in the desert, and tested God in the wasteland.

⁷Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord, your God.’”

⁹where your fathers tested me and tried me, and saw my deeds for forty years.
