Jeremiah 24:5

⁹I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, ‘It is my people;’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’”

⁷The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who take refuge in him.

¹²Blessed is the man whom you discipline, LORD,^[+] and teach out of your law, ¹³that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked. ¹⁴For the LORD won’t reject his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

⁵You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; ⁶for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

⁷It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? ⁸But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children. ⁹Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

⁹But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

⁷¹It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.

¹²But he answered, ‘Most certainly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

¹⁶who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn’t know, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;

⁶⁷Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I observe your word.

²⁷My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
