James 2:15

¹¹He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”

³⁵for I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. ³⁶I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me.’

³⁷“Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? ³⁸When did we see you as a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’

⁴⁰“The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,^[+] you did it to me.’

⁷Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?

¹⁶“If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail, ¹⁷or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it ¹⁸(no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, I have guided her from my mother’s womb); ¹⁹if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering; ²⁰if his heart hasn’t blessed me, if he hasn’t been warmed with my sheep’s fleece; ²¹if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate;

¹⁰and if you pour out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will rise in darkness, and your obscurity will be as the noonday;

⁵Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

⁷For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want to, you can do them good; but you will not always have me.

³⁷They were stoned.They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword.They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated—

⁷and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

²⁹preaching boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus.^[+] He spoke and disputed against the Hellenists,^[+] but they were seeking to kill him.
