Hebrews 3:11

³⁴The LORD heard the voice of your words and was angry, and swore, saying, ³⁵“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers,

³For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest;”although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

²⁰The LORD said, “I have pardoned according to your word; ²¹but in very deed—as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the LORD’s glory— ²²because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice; ²³surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it.

⁵and in this place again, “They will not enter into my rest.”

¹⁴The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the middle of the camp, as the LORD swore to them.

¹⁰The LORD’s anger burned in that day, and he swore, saying, ¹¹‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me, ¹²except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have followed the LORD completely.’ ¹³The LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation who had done evil in the LORD’s sight was consumed.

³⁵I, the LORD, have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”

¹¹Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They won’t enter into my rest.”

²⁷“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that complain against me? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel, which they complain against me. ²⁸Tell them, ‘As I live, says the LORD, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you. ²⁹Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me, ³⁰surely you shall not come into the land concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁹There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
