Genesis 49:16

⁶Rachel said, “God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan.

²²About Dan he said, “Dan is a lion’s cub that leaps out of Bashan.”

¹In those days there was no king in Israel. In those days the tribe of the Danites sought an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day, their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel. ²The children of Dan sent five men of their family from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. They said to them, “Go, explore the land!” They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

²⁶The children of Dan went their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house. ²⁷They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword; then they burned the city with fire.

²⁵The standard of the camp of the children of Dan, which was the rear guard of all the camps, set forward according to their armies. Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai was over his army.

²There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and childless.

²⁴The woman bore a son and named him Samson. The child grew, and the LORD blessed him. ²⁵The LORD’s Spirit began to move him in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

²⁰He judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.
