Exodus 20:11

¹In the beginning, God ^[+] created the heavens and the earth. ²The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and God’s Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

²On the seventh day God finished his work which he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. ³God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work of creation which he had done.

¹⁷It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.’”

²⁷He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. ²⁸Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

⁴In his hand are the deep places of the earth. The heights of the mountains are also his. ⁵The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land. ⁶Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before the LORD, our Maker, ⁷for he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice!

²⁸God blessed them. God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

⁷On the first day of the week, when the disciples were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day; and continued his speech until midnight.
