Exodus 12:26

¹⁴It shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall tell him, ‘By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage. ¹⁵When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of livestock. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that opens the womb, being males; but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’

⁷Remember the days of old. Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.

⁴One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.

³which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done. ⁵For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; ⁶that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,

²¹He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’ ²²Then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. ²³For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until you had crossed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over, ²⁴that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD’s hand is mighty, and that you may fear the LORD your God forever.’”

⁴You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

⁶that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in the future, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’ ⁷then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the LORD’s covenant. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’”

¹⁹The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do today. The father shall make known your truth to the children.

²and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your son’s son, what things I have done to Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am the LORD.”

⁸You shall tell your son in that day, saying, ‘It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ ⁹It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that the LORD’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt.
