Esther 8:1

⁷He brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter; for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.

²²A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.

¹⁵Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, advised. Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her.

⁶“Surely every man walks like a shadow. Surely they busy themselves in vain. He heaps up, and doesn’t know who shall gather.

¹⁶Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷he may prepare it, but the just will put it on, and the innocent will divide the silver.

⁶Esther said, “An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

²⁰“But God said to him, ‘You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?’

⁶Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches— ⁷none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him. ⁸For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough, ⁹that he should live on forever, that he should not see corruption. ¹⁰For he sees that wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless perish, and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. ¹²But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish. ¹³This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.

¹⁴and next to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king’s face, and sat first in the kingdom),

⁸He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.
